Thirst is listed as: Quenched, Normal, Thirsty and Parched. Hunger is listed as: Full, Normal, Hungry and Famished. The condition of the player's dogs can be found by clicking its name. The player can also choose to part ways with a dog by donating a dog to the hotel.Īs time passes without the dog being cared for, its condition will slowly deteriorate as it becomes more hungry and dirty. Only three dogs may be kept at the player's house at one time and up to five dogs can stay at the dog hotel, where dogs can be swapped, dropped off and picked up at any time. While walking, question mark icons on the map point out areas that may contain neighborhood dogs or presents, though presents can be found unmarked as well. Dogs can be walked and can be taken to the park where they can practice disc catching skills for disc competitions and to the gymnasium to practice dog agility for agility trials.
Money can be earned by placing in competitions or selling items at the secondhand shop and can be used to purchase supplies, puppies and home decor. The game also utilizes the built-in microphone, where the player can call their puppy or teach the puppy tricks. Nintendogs uses the DS's touchscreen, where the owner can: play with, train, pet, walk, brush and wash a virtual dog. A sequel, titled Nintendogs + Cats, was released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011.

They may interact with other players in multi-player by using the DS's wireless linkup. Players can bring their dogs on walks and to the park if they so choose. The microphone is used to call to the player's dog by speaking the name given to the dog in the beginning of the game as well as to teach the dog tricks such as "sit" or "roll over". These range from balls and frisbees, to toys, to grooming supplies to keep the dogs happy. The touch screen allows the player to pet a dog, as well as to use various items that can be found or purchased. Nintendogs uses the DS's touchscreen and built-in microphone. Nintendogs + Cats allows you to have up to three pets in your household or you'll be able to have them in your pet hotel where you can leave 3 more pets or you can give them up for adoption if you get tired of them. During the walks you can guide your pet to Beaches, Cafes, and other little shops by guiding your furry friend with the touch screen. The music is cute and catchy as well as the walks are more in depth with the 3D effect for your gaming pleasure. The game has many shops and customization factors to dress up not only your puppy and/or your kitten, but your house as well. This game is good way to kill time during the day HOWEVER o nly small periods such as a half an hour to an hour because after a while you will get slightly bored. The breeds become unlockable after beating competitions, walking your puppy and taking care of your adorable furry pet. You don't have to buy every Nintendogs + Cats to get every breed of puppy or cat. Nintendos + Cats gave as much detail to the pet's fur, personality and reaction like a real puppy or cat. The kittens, although cute as well, aren't as interactive because you can't teach it tricks like the puppy or take it on walks. It's for all ages and I'm saying that because I'm 20 years old still thinking it's the most adorable game ever! The puppies are unique, fun and more interactive to you as a pet owner in the game.
